Aotearoa Chief

MV Aotearoa Chief is a specialised self-discharging cement carrier that Swire Shipping commissioned in 2016 with New Zealand’s Golden Bay Cement. Operating on the New Zealand coast, she is tasked to carry more than 13 million metric tonnes over the life of her 20-year charter.

In September 2019, she reached the milestone of carrying one million tonnes of cement – the equivalent of 40,000 truckloads – on her 135th voyage into Auckland. This was just 30 months after she went into service. Over the period, she has made more than 365 port calls.

In January 2021, she completed her five-year survey in Devonport, Auckland.

An exemplary model of specialised tonnage, MV Aotearoa Chief is tailor-made to our customers’ needs, taking into consideration challenges and unique constraints in both ocean and coastal transportation. As every project is different, Swire Shipping has both the experience and knowledge to provide competitive solutions and services to support logistics supply chains.
