What are Dangerous Goods?

Dangerous Goods are substances or materials that pose a risk to health, safety and the environment during com-mercial transportation.

These substances come in a variety of shapes and sizes ranging from recognizable commodities like gasoline and diesel, to less-obvious, everyday objects like cell phones or laptop batteries.

My cell phone is a Dangerous Good?

Yes. Your cell phone, like many electronics, is powered by a lithium-ion battery which gives it the ability to re-charge through electricity.  Although there are international standards and regulations in place to ensure safe manufacturing, lithium-ion batteries are sensitive to heat and have a potential risk of combustion.

Swire Shipping’s Dangerous Goods Desk is made up of industry experts who work closely with customers to share help explain the rules and regulations required for the safe handling and shipment of your cargo and address any con-cerns you may have .
