Guidelines for the carriage of Calcium Hypochlorite

25/06/2021

Dear Customers,

Swire Shipping after a recent safe carriage review will accept the carriage of Calcium Hypochlorite only in Live reefer containers subject to compliance with IMDG Code, International Group of P&I and Cargo Incident Notification System guidelines.

Under the International Group of P&I and Cargo Incident Notification System guidelines:

  1. Transport Calcium Hypochlorite only at controlled temperature in reefer container set at +10 Deg Celsius. Always subject to a proper risk assessment.
  2. Calcium Hypochlorite must be shipped on a full container load basis only.
  3. Cargoes should be packed in clean plastic drums not exceeding 45 kg net weight, and the maximum payload per 20ft or 40ft container should not exceed 14 tonnes.
  4. Other packaging types such as large packaging, sacks, IBC or fibreboard are not to be used.
  5. Pallets, dunnage, drums, and other packaging material must be clean, free from contaminants, and in good condition.
  6. The drums should be secured appropriately on pallets and within the container per the CTU Code. Any securing method, such as shrink-wrapping, should not restrict adequate airflow around the drums to reduce retained heat within the cargo.

DG booking applications must include:

  1. Safety Data Sheet (MSDS);
  2. Shipper Declaration Form; and
  3. A vanning certificate to confirm that the above guidelines duly complied.

We look forward to your continuous support. Should you require further information, please do not hesitate to contact our Customer Service.
