Customer Advisory – Cargo Misdeclaration

Customer Advisory – Cargo Misdeclaration

06/06/2022

Dear Valued Customers,

Cargo Misdeclaration

As part of our commitment to safety, Swire Shipping takes a serious view of cargo misdeclaration and we have been strengthening our cargo acceptance & handling processes for all cargo including, but not limited to, dangerous goods, out of gauge and breakbulk cargo.

It is vitally important that cargo information provided at the time of booking and before cargo receival is accurate and complete. This will assist in ensuring the safe carriage of goods and the safety of all our seafarers, shore staff and others involved in the supply chain.

Cargo information may include items such as commodity description, cargo nature, dangerous goods information, cargo weight, cargo measurement and/or piece count.

Swire Shipping may as part of our cargo acceptance process impose additional checks prior to cargo being loaded. This may include requests for additional information or inspection of cargo.

If misdeclaration of cargo details is identified, Swire Shipping may reject or place the shipment on hold. Resulting costs including penalties will be for the account of the shipper.

Additionally, Swire Shipping will impose the following Cargo Misdeclaration Fees.

Non-hazardous Cargo: USD15,000 per container/breakbulk piece
Hazardous Cargo: USD30,000 per container/breakbulk piece

We seek your understanding and support in ensuring a safe supply chain.

Please contact your local Swire Shipping Office for any assistance required.
